Stand up Electric Scooter
A taster of what's out there and which one suits you.
Now looking at a stand up electric scooter, you can tell straight away that they're not for everybody!
The ideal place for these would be cruising along a boardwalk by the beach, or when you happen to live only a few miles from work and the road has a pretty low speed limit.
Given the chance though and with all the right conditions I think plenty of people would prefer this to a car.
They do have a very loyal number of fans though as they are great fun!
When I was younger I took a trip to Spain and electric scooters were huge over there especially with kids.
There was nothing more I wanted than a stand up electric scooter as it might not have gone very far or fast but it still gave you a HUGE amount of freedom for
almost no effort on your legs!
The only problem was the price as for a kid it’s a lot of money.
If you want a good one today it’s still a problem unless you plan to use it as your daily commuter which few people can.
So how about a few examples of what’s out there now:
A typical scooter for just messing around and is primarily for kids (although I would give a try no problem!) would be the X-treme X-10 100W.
It’s a typical foldaway scooter and very light. It has a top speed of 8mph and a range of up to 5 miles.
They may not be awe inspiring numbers but it’s on sale for about $100.
The Razor E200 is another smaller scooter with a top speed of 12mph and the batteries will last about 45 minutes with continuous use.
Considering they can take up to 4 hours to charge on all these scooters though it seems like you’re going to be doing a lot of waiting unless you plan your charging carefully.
It looks fun though and has a nice sleek design. This costs about $220.
Another step up would be the Evo 800W.
This has a top speed of 18-22mph depending on if you had a big dinner or not.
It has a range of 10 miles and comes with a number of things like disc brakes for the added power.
With this the price goes up again to about $450 however.
For the top of the line big boy fast electric scooters I think the Diggler Elite Cruiser is what you would want.
First off I’m just going to tell you it’s a jaw dropping $2,500....so now that the bad news is out of the way you can hear the good news!
It does a top speed of 20mph and a range of 20 miles which is in a different world to the other stand up scooters in terms of range.
It has a 750W motor and ways 100lbs. It’s also made to be a mountain scooter so it can even ride down steps if you want it to.
To be honest though for that much money you could easily buy a great electric bicycle
or even a big sit down electric scooter and be able to travel further but it all depends on what you’re into I guess.
Now buying a stand up electric scooter isn’t the only choice as there are plenty of people out there who like to roll up their sleeves and make it themselves!
They’re not crazy either as you can save a NICE bit of money in some cases.
You just need to buy a regular scooter, your own electrics and find a way to fit them together.
There are plenty of places online where you can learn about this DIY but don’t be upset if it doesn’t end up looking as sleek as the ones straight from a shop.
If you are buying you should definitely shop around as there are hundreds of places selling stand up electric scooters online and the price does vary.
Ebay would be a good place to look also.
To be honest I’ve always liked anything fast and manoeuvrable like scooters, skateboards and bikes and a stand up electric scooter seems like something I would love to own.
If I was to buy one it would have to be the bigger and faster ones and they can come at a price so you really have to judge yourself how often you will use it before you buy.
No one wants to look in the corner of the garage and be reminded by a rusting dusty scooter about how they wasted their money!
