Electric Bicycles: Twelve Reasons for NOT Getting an Electric Bike.
Reason 11: Electric Bikes are Dangerous As They Make You Go Too Fast.
I guess that when we cycle our bicycle under our own steam – it feels like we are in control. If something happens, then “it was my own fault”.
Add an electric motor and controlling electronics – and is it possible that the BIKE WILL TAKE OVER IT’s MASTER?
Or become like a RUNAWAY TRAIN?
Legal requirements in almost all countries say that Electric Bikes cannot be powered to above 25kph (about 18mph) using the electric motor.
How fast is that?
Well, I have gone about 38kph (30mph?) going down hill – and that felt VERY FAST on my pushbike.
It’s important to remember
that Electric Bikes are all about POWER ASSIST – not fully taking over.
Going up hill, the power takes up a lot of the slack – going down, it eases off and allows your pedal power and free-wheeling to take over.
On the flat – it depends on how much you WANT to pedal (or sweat!).
What I have found is that – as with most things in life – you GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!
what you pay for in terms of electronic controls to calculate how much assist to give and when.
You get what you pay for in terms of solid build – feeling safe when you are going faster.
what you pay for in terms of a good braking system – one you feel you can rely on, all of the time.
From my research, the cyclist STAYS IN THE DRIVING SEAT at all times. You aren’t going to be dealing with a runaway train – unless you have “Pimped Your Ride”
and have decided to try your luck as the cycling equivalent of a Test Pilot!
Now, what was the next reason NOT to get a Electric bicycle?
